LIFT-Boston is pleased to announce it was selected to receive a $40,000 grant from the BNY Mellon Charitable Giving Program through the Peter E. Strauss Trust. These funds will provide comprehensive support services to low-income families in Boston with a focus on stabilization services for parents and caregivers of Boston Public School Children.
“This is the second year we’ve been supported by BNY Mellon and we’re excited to build our partnership with them and the Peter E. Strauss Trust. They continue to act as a pillar for LIFT-Boston’s growth, and they share our goal of helping vulnerable community members and families meet their basic needs,” said Maicharia Weir Lytle, executive director of LIFT-Boston.
“Providing people with services when they need them the most is important, but treating them with dignity and empowering them to reach their potential is just as important,” said Joanne Jaxtimer, BNY Mellon Regional Executive. “LIFT-Boston’s approach to combatting poverty is grounded in the belief that families must set their own goals and work hard to achieve them, and we’re proud that our latest grant will enable them to help put more Boston families on the path to self-sufficiency.”

LIFT-Boston’s mission is to help community members achieve economic stability and well-being. Through the Circle of Promise Initiative, LIFT and the City of Boston are partnering to provide greater opportunity for young people and their parents in the Roxbury neighborhood by implementing place-based supports, boosting student achievement, and eliminating the cycle of poverty.
LIFT clients and volunteers work one-on-one to find jobs, secure housing, make ends meet through public benefits and tax credits, and obtain quality referrals for critical services like food assistance and healthcare. Simultaneously, the LIFT experience pushes clients and volunteers to grapple with Boston’s most challenging issues related to poverty, race, inequality, and policy. LIFT-Boston is part of a growing movement. Beyond Boston, LIFT serves five additional regions: Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC.
