Dear LIFT-DC Parents,
As Dr. Kristy Arnold transitioned out of her role recently, we were in the grip of a violent shooting in Buffalo that shook the nation. Kristy took time in her farewell speech to request that we bow our heads and share a moment of silence together for those victims, and their families, which we did. Less than a week later, we faced another similar tragedy in Texas.
The public spaces that are at risk in this country are places where our parents are most likely to be, where resources are offered that they may depend on while lifting themselves and their families into brighter futures.
That is why the entire team at LIFT-DC is reaching out today to ask parents: what do you need? What do your families and children need from us in these difficult times? How can we best serve you?
We encourage parents to use this resource in talking with their children about violence. In addition, here is a link to an anonymous survey for LIFT-DC parents. Every member of the LIFT-DC team is contributing to this outreach. Some are creating the survey, some are suggesting resources for parents, some got this message in your hands so you could read it right away. The LIFT-DC team is dedicated to reaching out, listening, and responding directly to the changing needs of your family.
Please keep an eye out for the survey we will send next week. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to reach out to Parent Engagement Program Coordinator Monique and/or LIFT-DC Executive Director Catalina Talero.
