From The Daily Pennsylvanian: Panel discusses urban poverty

This past Thursday evening, November 10, LIFT-Philadelphia and the Civic House at the University of Pennsylvania presented Think About It: Urban Poverty, a panel discussion on urban poverty. In a packed lecture hall on campus, LIFT-Philadelphia student directors moderated a panel that engaged LIFT volunteers, students, non-profit professionals, a LIFT client, and University of Pennsylvania faculty in a discussion on urban poverty in West Philadelphia. The panel brought together many unique perspectives into one room to discuss activism, West Philadelphia, the roots of poverty, and how students can move outside of the classroom to fight for social justice.

Students heard from four panel members, including:

-Andrew Lamas, Professor of Urban Studies

-Nijah Famous, Community Development Manager at ACHIEVEability

-Anisha Sinha, Site Coordinator/Americorps National Direct at LIFT Philadelphia

-Angela Allen, LIFT-Philadelphia client and West Philadelphia Resident
