At LIFT-NY, we know that breaking the cycle of poverty takes more than just access to resources. It requires knowledge, confidence, and a supportive community. That’s why we were thrilled to partner with Webster Bank, Capital Group, and TD Bank this year to offer a robust financial workshop series for parents and caregivers in our community. Our members were able to access free information from experts in their field.
Webster Bank led an engaging Money Management workshop, along with a Fundamentals of Banking session where members explored the differences between financial institutions, which accounts and products are covered by insurance, how to avoid overdraft fees, and how to stay safe while banking online.
Capital Group facilitated our Savings and Debt workshop, guiding parents through strategies to build savings while managing and reducing debt. They introduced helpful tools and free apps to help make saving easy and stress-free.
TD Bank hosted a TD Safe webinar, where our members learned how to spot and avoid common scams, protect themselves from fraud, and understand the basics of safe banking. Many shared that it was their first time learning about the dangers of gift card scams and crypto-related fraud.
To round out the series, TD Bank also hosted a First-Time Homebuyer workshop. The session guided members through practical steps to make homeownership feel more attainable, including understanding homebuying costs, the loan process, and how to prevent foreclosure. We hope the information shared helped equip those working toward homeownership with the confidence and tools to take their next steps.
These workshops did more than deliver information. They sparked a transformation. Members can have empowering conversations at home with their families, rethink how they save and budget, while they begin to set goals during coaching meetings that align with their family needs and feel more attainable.
